My Experience with B-12 Injections

Let me start by saying that I'm an infant when it comes to needles. Whenever I have to get blood drawn I make sure to tell the nurse, "I cry at needles...give me the baby one." So when I got my B-12 and studidly looked at the needle––my palms started to sweat.

I asked Heather, my friend and talented skincare goddess from Anton's Salon, "is this going to hurt?" And she replies, " doesn't feel good." **haha** Gotta appreciate the honesty!

But the shot wasn't that horrible to be honest. I definitely felt sore afterwards––like someone sucker punched me in the arm. But that went away by the end of the night.

Vitamin B-12 is an essential nutrient that helps maintain overall good health. It is proven to be beneficial in helping reduce stress, anxiety, depression, fatigue, and even improve memory! It can also assist the body into converting macronutrients (carbs, proteins, and fats) into energy and is essential for healthy radiant skin, cardiovascular health, and vision! Clients use vitamin B-12 injections to improve metabolism to aid in weight loss, enhance mood, increase energy, prevent sickness, and even to cure a hangover!

B-12 Injections

Here's what Heather had to say about B-12 injections:

With an intramuscular (IM) injection, 100% of the nutrient is utilized by the body as it is administered directly into the muscle. This means the nutrient goes straight to the bloodstream, bypassing any need for digestion. This is very different than taking the nutrient as an oral supplement. When taking an oral pill, about 60% of the nutrient is lost during the absorption process. Since so much of the nutrient is lost during absorption/digestion, individuals have to take far more than the recommended daily intake to even see any results. The digestion process takes much longer than getting an IM injection, prolonging the benefits/effects of such an essential nutrient!

This is the worst answer to this question, but I have to say, I'm not sure yet! I had one shot and I think it helped? But it's hard to say if it was the B-12 or I was just feeling decent that week. All I know is with my Ulcerative Colitis my body does not absorb nutrients through food and vitamins as well as it should. So I'm all for getting it all pumped straight into my blood stream....even if I have to whine about the needles.

Heather told me that some people come in weekly for shots, some come in monthly, it's always different. I think going in every week or two for me would be best...GIVE ME ALL THE HAPPY FEELING VITAMINS! I will keep you all posted on how it's improving my health and wellness as the journey continues.
