My FAVORITE NON-TOXIC Cleaning Products

Toxins and chemicals have been linked to infertility, autoimmune disease, anxiety, asthma, thyroid disorders, cancer, learning disabilities, autism, thyroid disorders, and so much more.

If we want to live a healthy lifestyle, it’s not just what we eat, it’s what we use in our homes and products for every day use. Conventional cleaning products are FULL of chemicals. Have you ever cleaned with a popular cleaning brand and are literally coughing/choking on the fumes? It’s your body telling you “I don’t like this. Stop with this crap.”

Luckily, cleaning products are one of the easiest swaps you can make. And honestly, these products listed are way more affordable in the long run than buying a ton of different cleaning products filled with toxins and chemicals!

Here are some of my favorites…

Branch Basics

This concentrate can be used for laundry (click here for my whole clean laundry regime), all purpose cleaner, stain remover, dishwasher detergent, the works. I personally love the convenience of using one product for everything in the house.

I emailed Branch Basics earlier this year stating my concerns with their plastic bottles (we try to be a no-plastic household). They reassured me that they are in the process of switching to glass (YAY!!) and that will slowly be rolling out in 2020. I haven’t heard much other news on that but in the meantime we use our own glass spray bottles and glass jugs for the different solutions.

Thieves

I lovvvve essential oils. I use them daily for all different reasons. But the thieves line is one that I love for cleaning. Like branch basics, they have a all-purpose cleaner that can be used in many ways. Young Living has a thieves line for many different products––we use the hand sanitizer and hand-soap as well!

Electrolyzed Water

I put in an order for this product from a recommendation from a friend. So I don’t know exactly how effective it is, but I’m optimistic and excited try it!

According to the Force of Nature website, they use a technology called electrolyzed water. They claim it kills viruses as effectively as bleach, but with no harmful residue, and no allergens or irritants.

How it works: An electrical charge goes through the salt, water & vinegar solution (which is in individual capsules), then the molecules are broken apart and formed into 2 new ingredients:

  1. Hypochlorous acid (HOCl) , the disinfecting & sanitizing ingredient. Which is commonly used in wound healing products and as a hospital sanitizer & disinfectant. And is supposedly the same substance your immune system produces to fight infection.

  2. Sodium hydroxide (NaOH). This is a common ingredient used at different concentrations in products ranging from toothpaste, skin moisturizers, and sunscreens, to cleaning products. In cleaning products, you typically see concentrations of 1-5%, but in Force of Nature it’s only 0.0000003%.

The website also claims that it kills 99.9% of germs including Norovirus, Influenza A, Salmonella, MRSA, Staph & Listeria when used as directed. It also states when used on a non-porous service, it can help against the COVID19 virus.

The basic starter kit comes with 5 Activator Capsules (enough to make 5 bottles of cleaner), the Electrolyzer, and a 12 oz Re-Usable Spray Bottle.

Hypochlorous acid starts to dissipate over time. To be sure Force of Nature is at its optimal power, you should use it within 2 weeks. So each capsule will last up to 2 weeks once “made”.

NOTE: I don’t love that this is plastic. When our starter kit does arrive we will be adding the solution to glass bottles!

Right now they have a 40% off discount code for their basic starter kit: “HEY40”

DIY

If DIY is your thing, there are also many recipes you can use to make your own cleaners. Here are just a few to get you inspired!

  • Streak Free Glass Cleaner - vinegar + water

  • Grout Cleaner - 3 parts baking soda + 1 part water

  • Tub Scum Cleaner - 2 parts baking soda, 1 part salt, + 1 part borax

  • Oven Cleaner - baking soda + water (let sit for a couple hours as a paste then wipe clean)

  • Dishwasher Cleaner - 2 cups of vinegar inside a glass top rack of the dishwasher (run without any dishes inside)

  • Shower Head Cleaner - Fill a plastic bag with white vinegar and then tie the bag around the shower head (let sit for up to 12 hours)

STay clean + healthy, my friends!
